Scientists managed to solve the mystery of the turtle navigation capabilities reach thousands of miles to the beach to hatch. How the turtle knows the purpose?
Loggerhead turtles (loggerhead turtle) breed on the banks of the Mediterranean, West Africa, Brazil and along the coast of southeastern United States.
Within 24 hours after hatching, turtles were returned to sea to begin the journey amazing clockwise around the Atlantic Ocean located thousands of miles. Amazingly, the female turtle will return to the beach to see the birth of a baby turtle.
"The hardest part is navigating open at sea in determining the position of longitude or East to the sea," said scientist Nathan Putman from University of North Carolina.
Scientists previously have found these creatures using Earth's magnetic field changes to tell their side of the North to the South so that directs itself along the lines of latitude. But scientists do not yet know how the turtle understand side of longitude from East to West.
Now scientists can no longer underestimate the ability of the turtle. It turns out using Earth's magnetic field to create a mental mapping system includes four main points of the Compass: North, East, South and West.
Researchers believe the Turtle create magnetic mapping in their thinking by combining information about the magnetic field and magnetic intensity.
"Although many animals are capable of detecting tilt or intensity of the magnetic moment of the determination of longitude, but capable of analyzing both loggerhead turtle parameters i.e. magnetic longitude and latitude," said Putman again in the journal Current Biology.
